Introduction :
This department entertains teaching and training modules on preventive medicine, social medicine, yoga, Naturopathy, ayurvedic nutrition and dietetics.
A real strength of Ayurveda is preventive measures and maintaining good health this is incorporated in the Swasthavritta subject. Thus this subject is very significant in the faculty of Ayurveda. According to CCIM, Swasthavritta syllabus contains preventive measures of Modern science, Yogshastra and Naturopathy as well.
The contents of subject are very helpful to create students, who are able to bring about welfare of the society with the help of science of Ayurveda along with Yogshastra and Naturopathy. The department has yoga hall. The department develops plans of action to deal with break of epidemics. Various programmes are on the anvil to propagate the outstanding wellness solutions of Ayurveda. Department of Swasthavritta is well established Department of Dr G.D.Pol Foundation Ayurveda hospital.
 

Objectives :

  • At the end of the course the students should be able to explain the concept of health; they should be able to advice an appropriate healthy regimen to patients.
  • They should be able to classify various food articles and its usefulness as a diet consultant to the community.
  • While serving the community they should identify various conditions that can lead to the spread of communicable diseases and non – communicable diseases and its preventive measures according to Ayurveda and modern medicine with the help of Yoga therapy and Naturopathy.
  • They should understand the principles and components of primary health care and the national health policies to achieve the goal of “Health for all”.

Departmental Features :

  • Library – Department of Swasthavritta is having its own library containing various texts and reference books of Ayurveda, Modern science, Yogashastra and Nisargopchar
  • Teaching aids – Transparencies, Slides, CDs of pranayama, aasan, shatkarma, Power Point Presentations of various syllabus topics are available in the department.
  • Other teaching aids like models on Ideal City Planning (Adarsha Vasahat), Wells – Rapid sand filter, slow sand filter, Types of sanitation.
  • Museum & Yoga Hall – Department possesses its own museum with all required charts, models and specimens. A separate Yoga Hall with an adequate space for Yogasana and all relevant charts related to Yoga is also available.
  • Departmental instruments like Dry wet bulb thermometer, Aneroid barometer, lactometer, Robinsons cup, Sling’s psychrometer, max and min thermometers

Departmental activities :

    • N.S.S. activity – Departmental teachers participate as a guest lecturer in various NSS camps.
    • Swasrnaprashan Shibir is organized by our institute.
    • For up gradation of knowledge, teachers of the department participate in various RoTP, seminars, CME, etc.
    • Swastharakshana OPD is conducted by Swasthavritta department in Dr G.D.Pol Foundation Ayurveda hospital.
    • Consultation about the diet, Yoga, Naturopathy is done.
    • Visits – To gain more knowledge and as a part of our syllabus, we organize various visits like leprosy sanitarium – Alert India, milk dairy at Arrey Worli & Goregoan, water purification plant at Bhandup water purification centre, sewage treatment plant at Sew woods, primary health centre at Nere , at Shantivan – Panvel, MCH centre, etc.
      Awareness programme – Lectures about ‘health education’ are conducted by the departmental teachers for school students of Dr G.D.Pol Foundation Ayurveda hospital.
    • In addition we arrange guest lecture for students on Leprosy diagnosis and treatment.
    • We organize weekly yoga & Pranayam sessions for students.
    • Demonstration of Panchakarma in daily regime
    • Introduction of Ayurvedic diet for malnutrition
    • Diet guidance for pregnant women – Gharbhasanskar
    • Lifestyle and Diet management at OPD basis
